Tactical Basketball match analysis
What would you do if you and your teammates are doing a match without any strategy? I used to play in a basketball team but our coach didn’t teach us any methods to solve the game and he neither planed our plays.
At first I think is necessary to explain some tactical concepts to understand the article. The strategy, for example, is a term with a military origin which refers to all plans, principles of play, and action guidelines decided upon before a match to organize the activity of the team and the players during the game. Another important term are tactics movements, which refers to any action that a player performs when is faced to a game situation that includes at least a direct opponent and may also have the presence of teammates. We could see how we can train these two concepts on the Sivils, K. (2009) book game strategies and tactics for basketball: bench coaching for success where he explains the two concepts individually and he also tell us what tactical aspects we can use against some strategic situations. The last important definition is the technique, which is referred to the motor capacity of a player. On the Nicole, M. (2004) book Training Technique tactically where explain how we can train the technique based on a tactical work.
When we started the match we didn’t have any strategy. However, we could see the strategy they had chosen. Their decision was pressing at midfield, searching an error of our movements, our passes or they tried to force us back to camp. At that moment we needed some tactic movements and we thought that if one or two teammates were able to cross the defensive barrier, we could pass the ball to them; therefore, they were able to score.
At the second half of the match they assimilated that midfield pressed strategy hadn’t been working correctly so they weren’t working efficiently. That’s why they choose to change the strategy of the match, doing the defense with three men in the bottle and two men outside the battle. Because of their decision about the new strategy, we had to change our tactics as well as we could. We choose to leave three men outside, one more than the other team, and we tried to do three points with external launch. We had the help of one teammate that did an offensive blockade. This tactic wasn’t taking a good performance because our technical aspects of external launch had never been trained before, so we always fail our launches. For that reason, we were forced to change the tactic if we wanted to score some more points and win the match. We put four men inside and a man outside, who was searching some teammate unmarked and, when he finally found him, he could passed him the ball; but this tactic didn’t work neither because they were better than us and they knew our plays and our movements very easily so we couldn’t increase our advantage.
Finally, at the last quarter, we were more tired than other team members because of our less preparation and we also had few people in the bench to play. That’s why we started to become nervous; it wasn’t good for us because they could finally win the match. But I don’t remember how many pints they did more than us.
